John Kelly: I feel so special. On my way into work this morning I got to be on the train that was announced over the Metro system as the train "experiencing mechanical problems." At the time, I--and hundreds of others--were standing on the platform at Judiciary Square. We'd just been offloaded because one of the doors wouldn't close. It wasn't a crowded train, just a recalcitrant door.

So, off we got while the driver made a sweep through the train looking for any stragglers. And then came the announcement: Delays on the Red Line due to a problem train at Judiciary Square. That was me! It was like hearing my single on the radio.

At least I wasn't in a SUPER hurry. And the next train wasn't too crowded. But if I lag a little behind in my question answering it's because I lost 15 minutes this morning and will be spending the day catching up.

Umbrellas and Rain Boots

It has been an excellent week. Elder Skinner and I have been working hard and making some good things happen. We've been causing a bit of chaos in Los Toros.

Every morning at 10:10 am we sing a song. There are four of us in the apartment and we sing pretty boisterously. We've received comments from two different neighbors on our singing. It's a song that some Hermana missionaries made up and printed out for the whole mission. It's all about our health and how we can avoid everything from the common cold, to cavities, to sunburns. Great. We love it and sing it every day.

I saw today on the way to the supermarket that I'll be missing a Hannah Montana movie and Dan Brown's Angeles y Demonios. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm sure you can all catch me up on the quality media when I get home soon. I know I've only been here for 4 or 5 months, but I might as well speak as if I'm about to come home, because time flies faster every day. Every day of this week has been nothing but a blur.

I spilled Coca Cola all over a member's table and table cloth on Saturday. I don't know how it happened. I won't try to make excuses. I'll just say that it was really embarrassing.

Padres, the big jackets you got me have come in handy this week as it has been pouring in Santiago. It's funny because when it pours, the water hits the ground and doesn't go anywhere. There are no sloped streets or drains lining the gutters as we find in the promised land of the United States. The water just fills up the streets and we have to creatively find a way to get to our appointments. We've been having a lot of fun with the rain though. We borrowed some umbrellas from the Bishop and his wife. In the near future, we'll have to buy our own umbrellas and rain boots too! I wish I could get yellow boots, but I don't think it would be appropriate with the Will Smith--Men in Black theme that we shoot for as missionaries.
